Youth News from Pastor Angela - May 2015

Youth News

Fourteen of our teenagers just participated in a 24 hour famine this past weekend.  The famine was to help bring home the reality of how many other teens in this world live without knowing whether or not they will have anything to eat from day to day.  During the famine, we did a Service Scavenger Hunt, Visited a few shut-ins, and cut out pieces of jeans to be sent to Sole Hope to be made into shoes for children in Africa.

This seemed to be a powerful activity as we discussed in the end what it was like and our young people are very grateful for the food that is so readily available to them.  The teens also had people sponsor them to do this activity.  The money brought in will go to the Appalachian Ministries in KY.

We wrapped up our Easter Candy Fundraiser where we raised $1,577.35.  We’d like to thank each of you who supported our teens in this endeavor.   The teens and/or their parents worked hard at this event.

We also baptized 2 of our teens, Joel Ferguson and Hollee Workman.  And this past weekend had another teen accept Christ as her Savior.

Please continue to pray for our teens as they are surrounded by temptations.  Pray that they can stand firm when no one around them does.  Pray they will find joy in the Lord and not turn to the world for their affirmations.

We will be having a DU on May 17 and June 5-11 we will be making our way to our work camp in KY.    We will be ministering to Appalachian Children and their families in KY.

It is my hope that each of you will do as Paul did for the Colossians:

“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.  And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father. . .”

Please make this your prayer for our teens.

In Christ alone,
Pastor Angela

Youth News from Pastor Jonathan - December 2012

We just returned from the annual State Youth Convention, THIRST, this past Sunday! We had such a
great time of fun and fellowship together! I never get tired of spending time with our youth, and activities
like this really give us the opportunity to share quality time together. I would like to say thank you to the
congregation for giving us all the opportunity to attend these functions, the Lord is working through our
teens; he has big plans for them! Please continue to pray for them daily!

Rest of the Year Events:

On November 30th we will be collecting toys at Clarion University for some of the less fortunate children
in the area. It will be before/during the WOF Christmas simulcast. Youth need to be there at
6:00 to help load toys into the box truck.

December 14: 7:00 -9:00pm
We are going to meet at the church at 7:00pm. Some other youth from the area will be meeting with
us to wrap the toys collected during the Toy drive. We will wrap all the toys starting at 7:00 and
then have a pizza party afterwards. Following the pizza party we will have a gift exchange and
some games.

December 15: Toby Mac concert
PLANS: We plan to leave the church on Saturday, December 15th at 1:00 PM. We are going to stop and allow the youth to shop and hang out at the Pittsburgh Mills from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. We will then eat dinner in the food courts around 4:00 PM and then head to the Consol Energy Center in downtown Pittsburgh for the concert. The youth will need to bring money for dinner, any shopping they want to do and/or concert souvenirs.

THANK YOU!!

I would like to express my thanks to all of you. Blair, Isabella, Easton and I are extremely blessed to have
been called to minister here in Clarion! I believe God is accomplishing great things here and it’s such a humbling experience to see His kingdom expanding because of the love all of you have for him! Seeing our youth grow in Christ is one of the greatest things I have the opportunity to witness! My family and I will continue to pray for God’s protection, guidance, and direction for each of your families as we approach and move through the holiday season! May God bless each of you as much as He has blessed us!

Pastor Jonathan's Youth Message - October 2012

Greetings on behalf of our youth and all the leaders who are actively involved in the lives of our young people!
God has been doing a number of great things with our youth here at Liberty Street Church of God, and I am thrilled to have the daily opportunity to work with our young people!  I feel blessed beyond words to be able to help guide and direct them in their spiritual lives through the power of the Holy Spirit and his leading!  I would ask that you continue to encourage the youth, pray for them daily, and support them in any way you can; they are doing a great job of shining the light of Christ into their schools and the community!
This fall we entered into a new transition with the youth!  Our church has been growing in number and that has increased the number of youth exponentially attending our weekly meetings!  At our kick-off party we had a total of 68 youth.  We have divided into three groups, led by seven adults, to help accommodate the differing ages and maturity levels of our youth.  Those groups are 4-6th grade, 7 and 8th grade, and 9-12th grade!
On September 9th we kicked off our fall curriculums with a Soul Survivor party.  The theme of the party, and the entire fall is: Outreach, Outlove, and Outpray!  We as leaders are really stressing the importance of reaching those who are lost, loving those who need loved, and being in constant prayer with God!  I believe our youth have stepped up to the challenge and are doing a great job of ministering to those they are in daily contact with! Praise the Lord!
I would also like to thank and recognize those who are helping lead.  JJ and Samantha Ferguson, Mary Beth Allen, Jessica Wilson, and Wendy Ferguson, along with Blair and myself have each taken on an age group to help lead through the fall!  Please be in prayer for these leaders, it requires a lot of time and commitment for them to come and devote themselves to the youth every Sunday night, and without them this ministry wouldn’t be possible!  Thank you leaders!
I want to thank the loving members of this congregation also!  You have shown the youth your love by supporting them in various fundraising activities, through prayer, and constant encouragement!  It is an exciting time in the life of the church here in Clarion to see the unity and oneness that can only be accomplished through the love and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
It is my heart’s desire to see the youth in this church become great followers of Christ!  To see them be Godly leaders in this community!  To grow up and raise families that serve Christ and his Kingdom!  God’s doing great and might things in Clarion and for that we are grateful!
In His Service,
Pastor Jonathan

Pastor Jonathan's... August 2012 Message

Greetings Parents and Youth,
I would like to start by saying thank you!  All of you have put a lot of effort into fundraising over the past couple of years in order for the youth to be able to participate in special events.  I want you to know how much I appreciate all of the time and effort you put forth to make these things possible.   The youth have benefited spiritually from these things more than I could ever express with words!  Thank you!
As many of you know, the youth is growing at an incredible pace!  We put together a list of      potential youth goers starting this fall and we have over 50 kids, incredible!  We have such an awesome opportunity to minister to each of these youth, and a great responsibility to mold them and shape them to who God has called them to be.  I would ask that you would continue to pray for them.
With all of that being said, fundraising is going to play a huge role in enabling these youth to continue to participate in regular outings, the state youth convention (THIRST), and the International Youth Convention(IYC) which occurs every two years.  I am asking all of you to push your youth to     really take advantage of the fundraising that we do.  We’ve been doing some brainstorming and we have come up with some fundraisers for the rest of this year, here’s what we are thinking……
August:
We are going to sell Pizza Pub pizzas.  We will pass out order forms on August 5th at our youth/parent meeting after church.   We will collect the order forms on August 19th.  The pizzas will be ready for pick up on August 25th at the Pizza Pub.  Youth make $2.00 on every pizza they sell and the only thing required of us is pick-up and delivery.  Sell…Sell…Sell….!!!
September:
With school getting started and all of the clubs and sports teams fundraising this month, we are not going to have a fundraiser in September.
October:
Our October fundraiser will be parking cars for the ALF!  We have done this fundraiser for a long time now and it is always very successful.  The dates we will park cars this year are      October 5th and October 6th. I will be putting together a sign-up sheet so the youth can      decide what shift they would like to work.
November:
The annual church Thanksgiving dinner is scheduled for November 11th.  We will be having a bake sale after the dinner like we have in the past.  If you could provide a dessert for this it would be much appreciated.  I will put out a sign-up sheet for this as well so that we have an idea how many desserts we can expect to sell!
These are the fundraisers we have scheduled for this fall.  Please, please, please….encourage your youth to participate in them!  If you have any questions don’t hesitate to call me at 724-456-6662 or email me atjspencer951@yahoo.com.  Again, thank you all for your time and       efforts in the never ending battle of fundraising!

May 2012 - Youth News from Pastor Jonathan

On behalf of the Liberty Street Church of God youth group and their parents, I would like to say thank you to everyone here at Liberty Street who has helped in one way or another with fundraising.  We have put a lot of effort into fundraising over the past two years and I know it gets frustrating and monotonous.  I appreciate everyone’s willingness to help out when they can and all the good attitudes even when you might have other things you could have been doing. Without all of your help it certainly would not have been possible to raise the funds necessary to go on the trip in July.  With that being said, we have two more fundraisers left before July is upon us, and they are both hoagie sales.  Be prepared to sell them in mid-May and also in June.
Some of us recently attended the Spring Break Youth Convention in Brookville, PA.  It was a great time of fellowship with some other youth groups and I think all of us were challenged in one way or another by our speaker Rob Mohr.  I look forward to the convention every year because it is smaller than the other conventions we go to, and it gives us more of a chance to connect with the other groups involved.
I would like to remind all of the parents about the youth camps that will be taking place this summer at Whitehall Camp and Conference center.  If your youth has not already registered to go, please encourage them!  I truly believe that God has anointed that campground and many people have been called to ministry, met spouses, and given their hearts to Christ there.  If your youth decides to go it will without a doubt be a life changing experience for them.  It is an honor to be a part of a church that sends the youth without them having to pay…what a great opportunity!

Youth News - April 2012

If you have not already noticed, the trees are starting to blossom and I have noticed some daffodil’s popping up out of the ground.  It’s a sure sign that spring is here to stay!  With spring comes a busy schedule for all of us.  Many of the spring sports will be starting if they haven’t already, vacation planning begins, not to mention all of the spring yard work that I am sure our youth will be participating in.  Here is what’s coming up for the youth at the church….
We will be wrapping up the Easter Peanut Butter Egg sale in the next week so make sure you let us know if you want more eggs and we can make one final push before finishing up.  Thank you to all the parents and youth who have helped make the eggs, without your help this would not have been a success.
Redbank Valley Bible Club is hosting the Skit Guys on April 3rd at 7:00pm.  The doors open at 6:00 and from what I have heard, you need to get there at 6:00 or you won’t get a seat.  Admission is free, and anyone who wants to go is welcome.  I will not be able to make this trip, so it will be an on-your-own trip; I just wanted everyone to know about it.
In late April we will be doing another hoagie sale, so please be listening for updates and start thinking about who you will sell them to.
Summer youth camps are:  June 10th – 15th for 9th-12th , June 17th – 22nd for 6th-8th grade, and June 24th – 28th for 3rd-5th grade.  All youth who plan on going this year, please have your registration turned in to Tammy by May 6th.  If you don’t have a registration form, see Jonathan or you can get one online at http://www.whitehallcamp.org/
As you know IYC is just around the corner.  July 1st is the day we will be leaving for Denver.  Please make the most of the egg sales and upcoming hoagie sale!
With growing numbers of youth at ages from 10-18, we are posed with the challenge of having something for everyone!  Please know that we are in the process of breaking up age groups so that we can be more effective in reaching all the youth at their current spiritual level.  It is exciting to see the growth we are experiencing, and we pray that it will continue into the future.

Youth News - March 2012

Hello to all of our youth,
It seems as though winter is giving way to spring more quickly than usual. That means that summer is just around the corner; and summer means suntans, baseball, a vacation from school and IYC!  But before summer gets here we have several things planned.  They are as follows!
First off, I would like to say thank you to all of the youth and parents who made the Valentine’s spaghetti dinner a success!  I have received several comments as to how much it was appreciated, and how great the entertainment was!  We raised over 500 dollars to add to the IYC fundraising efforts!
Our Easter egg fundraiser begins in two weeks!  There are signup sheets on the welcome table to sign up for a time to come and make eggs at the church.   We will begin making the eggs the first week of March. We are going to have egg making nights every TUESDAY and THURSDAY.  In an effort to be more efficient and also to give you some more flexibility, we are asking that only 3 or 4 families sign up for a certain night.  This will allow us to get the job done, but  also not get  burnt out on making eggs, because we all know by April nobody wants to be anywhere near a peanut butter Easter egg!  Look for the signup sheet Sunday the 26th!
There has been quite a bit of talk about getting together with the Brookville Church of God so we scheduled another group activity on Sunday March 11th.  The time is set for 5:30 till 7.  We will have a bunch of fun things to do, and there is a rumor going around about black light dodge ball!
We also have scheduled a lock-in for the youth and any friends who want to attend!  The date is March 23rd – 24th, and we rented the pool at the Holiday Inn!  We ask that each person bring 10 dollars and this will cover the cost of the pool and all your food.  The Holiday Inn will be putting out a buffet style snack area for us.  When we are finished at the pool, we will head to the church and stay the night there!
I think that pretty much covers it for now.  Please be in prayer daily for the events coming up, and especially for the fundraising efforts for IYC.  I am anxiously awaiting spring and I am sure most of you are as well!  See you soon!

Youth News from Pastor Jonathan - December 2011

would really like to thank everyone for the gift cards, gifts of money, and other gifts we received for pastor appreciation month!  It is nice to know that we are appreciated and loved by all of you.  Over the past year we have had the opportunity to meet with several of you and spend some time together.  It is such a great opportunity for us to serve you and take part in molding your youth!  We hope and pray that God will continue to guide us and bless us as we strive to move His Kingdom forward.
I am happy and relieved to say we made it safely home from the state youth convention, “Thirst” in Erie.  We had a great weekend of fun, food, fellowship, and growing closer to God.  We were blessed to have nice weather; we all know what the weather in Erie can be like in November.  Over the course of the weekend we were challenged to make an impact in our communities, to be the hands and feet of Christ.  Please continue to encourage you’re youth to volunteer or sacrifice their time to help make this community one that will be known by its fruits.  As a last thought, and side note, I don’t recover from being up all night as well as I use to!
For those who haven’t heard, we raised almost $900.00 at the bake sale during our annual Thanksgiving dinner.  That is Awesome!  Thank you all for participating in the auction and supporting the youth who will be going to the International Youth Convention in Denver, CO this coming summer.  A special thanks to Matt Bates for being our auctioneer! Thanks Matt!

Youth News from Pastor Jonathan - November 2011

YOUTH NEWS
Hopefully all of you have managed to stay warm and dry over the last couple of weeks.  It seems as though the weather can only get colder from here on out.  The youth had a great time at our recent fall harvest party.   The corn maze was anything but dry, but we still managed to make it through.  Our champion pumpkin carvers this year are Hanna Allen and Maci Thornton, congratulations ladies.  We do have some things coming up as Thanksgiving and Christmas speedily approach, they are as follows:

November 13: 12:00pm – All church Thanksgiving Dinner/ Youth Bake Sale.  If you have not made connections with Blair or myself about making a dessert and you would like to, please contact either one of us.
Also, on November 13th @ 5PM - Combined youth gathering with Brookville Church of God @ Brookville.  We will meet here in Clarion and drive over to the Brookville COG to have some fun and fellowship with their youth group.
November 18-19-20 – Thirst State Youth Convention @ Bayfront Convention Center in Erie.  We will leave the church around 4:00 on the 18th and return around 2:00 on the 20th.
November 24: Thanksgiving
December 2-3: Live Nativity
December 18: Youth Christmas Party @ the Church
We have had a blessed year as a youth group.  I am continually thankful for each and every one who comes and participates in our meetings and get togethers.  I would encourage each of you to pray for opportunities to share the gospel message as we approach the holiday season.  This is the time of year when many families struggle the most; whether it be the loss of a loved one, a family break-up, finances, or a number of other things.  People need to know that there is someone who loves them more than they could ever imagine, and it is our responsibility to share that with them.  Please remember to thank God for the blessings he has bestowed upon you in your everyday lives.  God is good!

April 2011 - Youth News from Pastor Jonathan

Hello Friends!

Spring is FINALLY here once again! This is our second most favorite time of the year, fall being the first. We are looking forward to the many activities we are going to be able to do with the youth outside; like campfires, volleyball, kickball etc. This is becoming the busiest time of the year for our youth and their families but we pray that God will keep our youth interested throughout the spring and summer months so that they will continue to come.

Over the past month or so the youth have been making easter eggs and it has been quite a success already. We have earned about $600.00 dollars so far and we still have a month to go! We work on making the eggs every Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. If anyone is interested in helping during the day time please see Blair and she will set up a day and time that we can do that.

The youth has started some new adventures in our studies on Sunday evening. Our senior youth boys are studying through the men of the bible. Senior youth girls are working through a book called Sexy Girls (I know, it sounds like something we wouldn’t read at youth) it is a study on modesty and how girls can help keep their fellow Christian brother’s minds pure. Junior youth is starting to read through the different books of the bible and taking a closer look to really discover things for themselves. God has definitely blessed this church with wonderful youth and they are growing together as a group and spiritually.

We would like the parents to keep us informed of the youth’s activities outside of church so Blair and I can come and support them and be a part of their lives in that aspect as well. So please when you get their schedules for activities or events give us a copy or email us!

The following is a list of our activities and fundraisers that are coming up in the next several months. We thank you in advance for all your support and prayers in all of these events.

April 1-2nd: Spring Convention in Brookville
May: Campfire at new property
June: Youth Camps
July: Rummage sale/ youth camps
August: Spaghetti Dinner/ Camp meeting/Camping and canoeing trip

Women's Ministry:
The Caring Hands Committee is in need of an update. We need to update our list of ladies who are willing to help minister to our fellow sisters who may need some TLC. You can do this by helping provide a meal/meals to one of your sisters who may have just had a baby, or been hospitalized, or have had surgery, or a death in their family. You will never be asked to do this alone. We will co-ordinate you to work with one or two other people. Any questions? Fell free to call Judy Garris @ 764 - 6153 or Roxanne Kahle @ 226 - 5036.
It takes a Village!! Do you know what talent or business or employment each member of your church is involved in? A bulletin board will be created with church families' business information at the end of February. I encourage each of you to provide a business card or any relevant business information. This also could include babysitting information or other service items as well.
Without the knowledge of what each other does, we are not able to have the opportunity to support one another through this realm.
Please place any relevant information in Tracy Miller's mailbox or e-mail it to tmhm72@yahoo.com . If you have questions about this request, please feel free to contact Tracy.
Women's Prayer Retreat - The Women's Group along with the Prayer Ministry Team are hosting a Women's Retreat here @ the Church on Saturday, March 12th from 11AM - 2PM. Speakers - Linda Barger in the AM & Pam Gruver in the afternoon. Childcare & Lunch will be provided. There are brochures with all information int he mailboxes as well as by each entrance. Please see the brochure & register by Sunday, March 7th if you are planning to attend.
A Calling for Ministry - Jenna & Maya Miller would like to send items to Support their Uncle & others overseas risking their lives for us.
If you have a loved one you would like to be included in receiving these items, please see Tracy Miller or contact her @ tmhm72@yahoo.com. Please place all items in the identified box in the Narthex by the Welcome table.
Items encouraged are: Bibles, books, DVD's, snack items, puzzle books, games, cards, "Nerf balls", & other small items. Money is also appreciated to offset the cost of mailing these items; please place money in Tracy Miller's church mailbox.
Thank you in advance for not only supporting the military, but also Jenna & Maya in their attempt to serve.
Social Committee...
The Social Committee is looking for people to help with funeral dinners. There have been 3 team leaders chosen & we are looking for people to be part of a team. If you feel a calling in this area & have your mornings or afternoons available, please sign up in the Narthex to be put on a team. Questions can be directed to Debbie Martin @ 226 - 5735. We have 2 sign-up sheets in the Welcome Center for those wishing to help w/Funeral Dinners. 1 list is for helping with the dinners & a second list is for funeral dinner cake baking.
Are you creative? Use your gift by designing a bulletin board for a holiday in 2011 or for a Christian theme to encourage our church. Some materials will be provided through the church office or other resources. Contact Jacqueline Morrone @ 226 - 4035.

I would like to say thanks to all the parents & youth who attended our recent meeting.  It went very well & I appreciated everyone's input.  It's exciting to see so many people willing to do anything they can to see our youth grow & mature as Christians.  We have a busy year ahead of us  & I think God is going to move in many ways.  Please keep the events listed below in your prayers & add them to your calendars.
* 3rd - 6th Grade Winter Retreat - February 11th & 12th
* Card Fundraiser - due February 16th
* 30 Hour Famine - February 25th & 26th
*Also... on March 10th - 12th, the Clarion Area High School will be putting on a play.  We have some youth participating in the play & it would be great for some in the congregation to come out & show yout support for them!!!
Finally, Youth... we are going to be starting a new series on Sunday nights called "360 Revolution".  It's going to show us how to minister to our friends & classmates.  Please be thinking about 3 people in your lives who may not know Christ that you could witness to.
