This time of year is a great time for reflection. As I have journeyed through this life I have learned how important it is to reflect upon the past. Where has God moved in my life? What has He done? What miracles have taken place? How has He revealed Himself to me? Revisiting the past can help us to see the Hand of God at work and remind us of His love and care for us even when we may have felt abandoned or left to fend for ourselves.
In Joshua chapter 4, Joshua is instructed to take 12 stones from the middle of the Jordon where they passed on dry ground and place them together as a remembrance of how the Lord dried up the waters and His people were able to cross on dry ground. God told them to do this as a memorial for their children and grandchildren to be reminded of God’s care and provision. We often take this time of year and make resolutions for our future. We go on diets, we begin vigorous exercising schedules, and we pledge to give up chocolate. Our resolutions are endless. What if we made an altar of praise? How about taking time to reflect on how God has taken care of the difficulties in our lives and explore how we can grow our faith and encourage one another in the Spirit of God?
Let’s not be like the Israelites who over and over were rescued by the hand of God, taken out of captivity and quickly forgot His goodness. It seems as if the Israelites no sooner were redeemed that they wandered away from God, forgetting His love and mighty power.
Look at the challenges of the past year and the miracles that God performed in your lives. Take time to praise Him and remember His amazing love for you. What a change we could make in our community if we were less focused on improving ourselves and more focused on the work of God and His great provision. As you reflect upon his gifts, be an encouragement and share with those around you.
Reflect, Remember, Respond, Receive, Rejoice and Reach others with God’s Blessings.
